Every kid skater wants to be sponsored some day. Me? I’m over that dream. I’m too old, and too sucky. Besides, if your goal is to be sponsored, I think it takes a lot of the fun out of the game.
Most of this is old news, but I have noticed that skaters are getting sponsored by more and more ridiculous companies… sponsors that don’t even care about skateboarding. Here are 3 awesome examples.
Corey Duffel
Sponsor: Paul Mitchell
Why? He’s an awesome skateboarder, with gay awesome hair. So why not?
Mike Vallely
Sponsor: Anaheim Ducks
Why? He happens to like hockey… hmm. I like a lot of things, maybe I can get sponsored by Ben and Jerry’s Ice cream? Or bar-b-que? Yes please, I would like to be sponsored by bar-b-que.
In reality, Mike’s sponsorship has been terminated because he is stupid and he fights too much. Don’t worry bar-b-que, I never fight.
Here’s Mike explaining why he fights too much.
Pat Duffy and Jake Brown
Sponsor: Ford Mustang
Why? Because the Mustang is extreme, just like them. Actually, I’m not sure that they are technically sponsored by Ford, but they are in the commercial.
What can I say? I don’t blame the guys for taking these sponsors, I would be the first one waiting for the paycheck. So did they sell out? Well, that depends on how much you like Bar-b-que.
