Skatemodo’s Semi-Serious Skate Shoe Review

DC ‘s AT-3 MID… Don’t Do It.

Holy crap. Unless this shoe comes with Astro Boy style jet propulsion, keep these suckers out of your closet. I think if you stare at these shoes too long, you suffer a mild to mid level seizure, due to excessive brain stimulation.

Apparently these beauties feature the Aerotech ventilation system, have a perforated upper panel, metal eyelets, a foam-padded tongue for added comfort, and are made from both leather and nubuck. I hope they also took a page out of the old school, Kangaroo brand of shoes, and feature a pocket on the tongue where you can keep the receipt of purchase. That way, the day after you buy them and realize what you have done, you can zip straight back to the skate shop without the hassle of having to look through plastic bags, searching for it.

In all honesty, the White and Black versions look a lot simpler, however, the plastic still remains. I’m a big fan of how shoes look from the top down, which is how I most often see the ones I wear, and from that angle, they are respectable, except for the Velcro strap.

I take it all back if this is the new Lebron James pro model.

TOP DOWN 6/10 (but a bit too much like my fifth grade gym shoes)

DC’s PURE SLIM

To prove I have nothing against DC, I will now give a glowing review of the pure slims. I will right now admit my bias to un-bulky skate shoes. Don’t get me wrong though, I’ve paid my dues with the huge and puffy skate shoes, as I used to wear Osiris D3’s. One pair was enough.

Another image that significantly influences my taste in shoe slimness is the JR. High mall girl look: skinny legs in skinny jeans, sitting in huge skate shoes.

These shoes are nice and simple. They are a classic and clean, without all the bells and whistles that clutter many of the skate shoes out there. You can’t go wrong owning these. You could just as easily wear them skating as you could going out with a crisp pair of jeans and a button down… to the mall to meet your girlfriend (the girl with the super skinny jeans and gigantic shoes).

Get them in black.
